You walk along the beam, passing by column-like shafts that disappear in the ceiling above. This long room is situated directly beneath the trailing hall above. It is full of flywheels, gears, columns, and beams. When you’re up in the training hall, you can hear the gears turning, the belts flapping, and the chains coiling, but you’re usually so focused on the training that you don’t think much about what makes the trailing floor tiles rise up and down on the columns beneath your feet.
You see a lamp and a jumble of tools here on the beam above the mechanism. Looks like Master Arasemis or Marlan is making repairs. Marlan has mentioned that the machine doesn’t break down too often, but you see oil squirts and spills all around. It feels a bit warm and stuffy this deep into the mechanism, and smells of rubbed metal and lubricants.
You look down into the gloom. The light is too dim to seem much. You cannot imagine how this thing works, but you know it must be an advanced form of machina arcana that you are many years away from even being introduced to.
